Caston’s Pet DuVall, left, prepares to tag out Pioneer’s Wyatt Zeider at third during Thursday’s conference game. Zeider was out at third.

The Caston High School Comets baseball team avoided a no-hitter but were shutout 9-0 to the Pioneer Panthers in Thursday’s home Hoosier North Athletic Conference game.

Caston's Jackson Rentschler stepped to the plate in the bottom of the fifth after advancing to first on a fielder’s choice in the second. He hit a single to center field for Caston’s only hit in the game in the fifth and was left on base.
