Walter Edward ‘Ed’ Oliver

Dec. 5, 1947 – July 25, 2020

Walter Edward “Ed” Oliver, 72, North Manchester, passed away at his home surrounded by family at 2:45 a.m. on July 25, 2020.

One of eight children, Ed was born Dec. 5, 1947, in Rochester, to Leo Rue and Melva A. (Lowe) Oliver.

In 1966, Ed graduated from Rochester High School. It was seven years later that Ed married his best friend Valery Owens on July 28, 1973. The two were married three days short of 47 years. During their wonderful time together, Ed worked as a district manager for Pizza Hut through Daland Corp. for 34 years, before a stroke forced him to retire 10 years ago.

Family was everything to Ed. He relished his time when the entire family came over and he could cook for them. He loved being with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing games, especially euchre and Yahtzee. Ed was a man that was loved by all, because of the way he treated people and his fun-loving personality. He took comfort in knowing that when he passed away, he would be able to still help people in need by being a donor. Ed took great pride in keeping the yard looking extravagant, feeding wildlife, hunting with his camera and fishing.

The loving memory of Walter Edward “Ed” Oliver will be forever cherished by his wife, Valery Oliver, North Manchester; sons Edward Oliver, Indianapolis, Wade Oliver, Greenwood, and Christian Oliver, Noblesville; daughter Venus (John) Kauffman, Warsaw; brothers Junior Rue (Verna) Oliver, Rochester, and Harry “Jim” (Sandy) Oliver, Anderson; sisters Ruth Ellen (David) Ballinger, Granger, and Pat (Greg) Mellinger, Mackie (Don) Cowles, and Debbie (Denny) Dell, all of Rochester; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two dogs, Sophie Girl and Sampson.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Robert John Oliver, who passed away on Dec. 29, 2019.

Family and friends may celebrate Ed’s life Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020, from 1-4 p.m. at Congregational Christian Church, 310 N. Walnut St., North Manchester, Indiana.

For those who wish to honor the memory of Walter Edward “Ed” Oliver, a love offering may be made to McKee Mortuary, 1401 Indiana 114 West, North Manchester, IN 46962, to assist with final expenses.
