Gary Michael Smith

Jan. 11, 1973 – Jan. 6, 2020

Mr. Gary Michael Smith, 46, Rochester, passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, at Summit City Nursing Home, Fort Wayne.

In Logansport, on Jan. 11, 1973, Gary was born to David William and Margaret “Peggy” Ann Miller Smith. In 1991, he graduated from Rochester High School. He lived his entire life in Fulton County.

Gary struggled with a form of muscular dystrophy known as myotonic dystrophy. This was exasperated in 2001 by a car-pedestrian accident, which gave him permanent brain and knee injuries.

As a sports fan, Gary enjoyed watching the Cubs, Bears, Colts and New Orleans Saints. At the collegiate level, he cheered for the Missouri Tigers. Gary enjoyed reading Sports Illustrated. To keep his mind sharp, he loved the challenges of solving word searches and word puzzles.

Left to cherish the memory of Gary are his father, David Smith and wife Rose Marie, Trumansburg, N.Y.; sisters Wendy Smith, La Porte, Linda Stidham, Rochester, and Tiffany Vore and husband Alvie, Corydon; and niece and nephew Madison Vore and Cody Vore, Corydon.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy, on April 17, 2002; brother-in-law Tyrone Stidham, on Oct. 18, 2012; and grandparents.

A celebration of the life of Mr. Gary M. Smith is 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with Brother Ron Newcomer officiating. Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment is in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.

Janet H. Wood

Janet H. Wood, 79, rural Akron, died Wednesday at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Arrangements are pending at Hartzler Funeral Home.

Pat Meade

Pat Meade, 78, Rochester, died Wednesday at Traditions at Solana, Indianapolis. Arrangements are pending at Good Family Funeral Home.
