A fire ripped through Olive Bethel Church of God early Tuesday morning, prompting response from fire crews of Mentone, Akron and Rochester. Upon arrival, the church at 12998 W. Kosciusko County Road 1000 South near Akron, was fully engulfed. Firefighters used about 18,000 gallons of water to put the flames out and were on scene for several hours to make sure it did not rekindle. Mentone Fire Chief Mike Yazel reports no one was injured in the fire, which remains under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office. Top – the aftermath of the fire and was taken as firefighters worked to pump water from the church’s basement to assist in the investigation. Above – the fire captured by Matt Cavender, who resides in the area and has been attending the church since 2004.
