Richard Sanders

Richard A. Sanders, 91, Cookeville, Tenn., passed away at 1:55 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at Signature HealthCARE, Algood, Tenn.

Richard was born on Dec. 5, 1925, in Rochester. Upon his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Navy and was a signalman aboard LST 856 in the South Pacific in WWII. After retiring from the war, he married June (Hayden) in 1946. He was a member of the Cookeville Kiwanis Club for a number of years. He worked as a salesman for McKee Baking Foods (Little Debbie) for 40 years, until retiring in 1990.

Richard is survived by his children, Cristine (Jim) Gooch, West Mifflin, Pa., Cathy (Ray) Lintner, Cookeville, Tenn., and Pete (Judy) Sanders, Fort Myers, Fla.; sister Sue Henry; and brother Mike Beattie. He has nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, June Sanders, and his brother, Jackie.

A private graveside burial with military honors is planned. Burial will be in the Dry Valley Cemetery in Cookeville, Tenn.

I worked with Dick for several years at Tip Top, Wards Foods Inc (bread and pastries). We was a serious salesman and a man I'll never forget.

I will always remember my Uncle Dick, he was a great guy.
