Local centenarian, Lucile 'Lucy' Bartlett, 104, of Macy, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Life Care Center, Rochester.

On July 7, 1909, Mary Lucile 'Lucy' Robins was born in Deedsville to Ray and Zella (Kerschner) Robins. Lucy shared her childhood with three sisters and a brother.

In May of 1927, Lucy graduated with her class from Deedsville High School with great pride!

Lucile and Maurice A. Bartlett were married on July 12, 1929, in Kewanna. They shared over 50 years of life's adventures. Together, they raised five handsome sons. The family tree continued to grow, as her legacy became blessed with five generations.

Assisting her husband, Maurice, Lucy helped out at Bartlett's Garage in Macy. During the school year while he was driving the bus, she would keep an eye on things and pumped gas. Other times, she ran for parts, heading up to Miller Brothers part store in Rochester.

As a loving mother, she peeled mountains of potatoes from her kitchen command post, making the best fried potatoes. On wash day, her clothes lines were loaded with overalls. One of her secrets of longevity was to persevere through life with a positive attitude and sweet personality, both were strengths of Lucy. She created gifts of warmth for her family and special friends by crocheting quilts. She also weaved rugs in interesting patterns. Bingo was her favorite game.

Left with many wonderful memories of Lucy are her four loving sons, Byron 'Bud' Bartlett and wife Ethel, of Mishawaka, Glen Bartlett and wife Sharon, of Macy, James Bartlett and wife Vicki, of Rochester, and John Bartlett and wife Carol of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Roseleen 'Rosie' Day, of Macy, Ruby Walker and husband Robert, of Wabash, and Gaythal Boswell, of Swayzee; a sister-in-law, Norma Robins; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Lucile in death were her parents; husband, Maurice on Dec. 8, 1979; a daughter, Rosanna Marie, at age 3; two sons, Billy Lee Bartlett, at birth, and Wilden A. Bartlett; three grandchildren; and a brother Everett 'Abe' Robins.

A celebration of the life of Mrs. Lucile 'Lucy' Bartlett will be at 1 p.m. today at the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, with Rev. Tony Bartlett officiating.

Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She will be laid to eternal rest next to her beloved husband Maurice in Plainview Cemetery of Macy.

Memorials may be made to the Macy Christian Church or Gentiva Hospice.

Online expressions of sympathy may be made to her family at

Lucy was a very loving person at life care. I would go visit my dad and she would be sitting in the hallway. She always wanting me and my mom to take her home. I so badly wanted to take her home with me. I think a few times I made her laugh. Lucy had such a loving smile. She will b missed and forever in my heart. Now Lucy is home where she will no longer in pain, and will b with her husband, and will fly free, and watch over all who she ever came in conter with..... rest in peace Lucy......
