Ruth H. Zartman
Aug. 29, 1922 - Jan. 1, 2013
Mrs. Ruth H. Zartman, 90, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Pilgrim Manor, Plymouth.
Ruth was born on Aug. 29, 1922, the precious daughter of Guy and Lily E. Johnson Hunter. As one of 12 Hunter children, she shared her childhood with three sisters, Lucille, Dorothy, and Peggy, and eight brothers, Larry, Russell, Arthur, Harry, Empy, Bill, Kelly and Robert.
On June 17, 1939, in Rochester, Ruth married her best friend Dean L. Zartman. Their union spanned over six decades and was blessed with three children, Phyllis Marie, Carol Ann and Ernest Dean. Over the years, the family tree grew to include seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In the early years, Ruth took great pride in flower and vegetable gardening around her home. As an accomplished seamstress, she tended to the family mending and made custom clothing. Once, she created a beautiful formal gown for one of her granddaughters to wear to a dance. To keep sharp, she enjoyed the challenges of word searches. The proud matriarch of four generations, Grandma Ruth especially enjoyed doting on her grandchildren and the great-grandchildren .
Ruth is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Phyllis Marie Calhoun and husband Robert, of Charlottesville, Va., and Carol Ann Allshouse, of Barberton, Ohio; one son, Ernest Dean Zartman and wife Lorna, of Plymouth; one sister, Peggy Ehlinger, of Rochester; two brothers, Larry Hunter and wife Ruth, of Rochester, and Russell Dean Hunter and wife Nancy, of Jensen Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Preceding Ruth in death are her parents and beloved husband of 61 years, Dean Zartman.
A celebration of the life of Mrs. Ruth H. Zartman will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at the Good Family Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Rochester.
Friends may visit with her family from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday and an hour prior to her services.
Burial will take place in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Dear Peggy, Larry, and Dean I am very sorry to read about your sister passing. Of course we knew the family very well, as we lived so close and had many good times together. Between the Holloways, Johnsons, Hoppers and the Clay's we were the neighborhood kids. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Love Friend Sis
