George Earl Butler, 68, Akron, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 at his residence.
He was born May 18, 1944, in Aurora, Mo., to parents Millard and Ilie (Dillion) Butler.
George retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years and then, in later years, he had been a truck driver. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1343 in Rochester. He had a passion for hunting and enjoyed both firearms and archery. He also enjoyed working on lawnmowers.
Survivors include one son, Kevin and wife Teri Butler, Peru; one grandson, Braxton Butler; and one sister, Ruby and husband Charles Cantrell, Ridgedale, Mo.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Military rites will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1343, Rochester.
Memorial contributions may be made to the families of fallen soldiers.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.

Very sorry to hear of George's death. I knew he hadn't been doing very well. George was a great friend and also a great neighbor. I'm going to miss him. Prayers to you and your family.
