Nancy L. Moore
Jan. 15, 1950 - Sept. 19, 2012
Nancy Moore
Nancy Moore

Nancy L. Moore, 62, of Rochester, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday Sept. 19.

She is remembered for her excellence in education providing a foundation of learning for her first grade students in the early years at Riddle Elementary and most recently at Columbia Elementary until her retirement from Rochester Community Schools in May of 2005, after 33 years as a dedicated classroom teacher.

Born in Silver City, N.M. on Jan. 15, 1950, Nancy was the precious daughter of Calvin and Betty Lange Stutzman. Growing up she shared her childhood with a sister Sue and a brother Gary. As a youngster, her family moved to Nappanee. In 1968, Nancy graduated with great pride from Nappanee High School.

She continued her studies with the dream of becoming an elementary school teacher at Bethel College, earning her bachelor of arts in elementary education. Later she attended classes at Ball State University earning her Master's degree in education.

On Dec. 27, 1980, Nancy married her best friend and lifelong companion John R. Moore at the Burton United Methodist Church. Their union of over 31 years produced two wonderful children Kenny and Katie. As a wife, mother and grandma Nancy's world revolved around her family.

Following retirement and her love for children, Nancy volunteered at Grace United Methodist Church Preschool Classes. Retirement brought on additional opportunities for travel. She and John enjoyed the special destinations of the Pacific North West, Washington, New Orleans, Arizona, and Cape Cod to name a few. Nancy was a collector of lighthouses, teapots, sheep and antique cookie cutters.

A proud owner of a vast collection of cookbooks, Nancy especially was fond of church cookbooks. At home from her kitchen command post, she enjoyed trying out new recipes and preparing food for birthday celebrations and family holiday gatherings. Nancy also enjoyed decorating her home with a seasonal touch for the holidays and year round celebrations.

Nancy is lovingly remembered by her husband, John; daughter Katie and fiance Salvador Sanchez Jr.; son Kenny and his girlfriend Casie Atkins; her cherished grandson Aaron Lee, all of Rochester; parents Calvin and Betty Lange Stutzman, of Nappanee; a brother, Gary Stutzman and wife Kerry of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Sue Welch and husband Dale of Albuquerque, N.M.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; three brother-in-laws, Jim Moore and wife Jane, of Delphi, Joe Moore and wife Terry, of Rochester, and Jack Moore and wife Sandy of Mesa, Ariz.

A celebration of the life of Nancy L. Moore is at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25 at the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, with Pastor Don Nunemaker officiating.

She will be laid to eternally rest on the family plot at the Richland Center Cemetery northwest of Rochester.

Friends may visit with her family from 4-8 p.m. on Monday and an hour prior to her services.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Burton- Richland Center United Methodist Church.

Dick and I just learned of Nancy's untimely death. We are beyond words. Our hearts weep for your loss. What a lovely lady and what a beautiful tribute written of her accomplishments. We pray for your peace, comfort and above all for the love of Christ who can help with the loss and burden you all feel. We are so saddened for you, but you must know now of all of the friends and family who love you and lift you in prayer.

Mrs. Moore taught me so much.. One thing in addition to education is how to be clean! I remember with the the fairy would come and leave surprises in the clean desks! I feel very blessed to have had Mrs. Moore in my life for all of these years... You are greatly missed.

My prayers and thoughts are for the Moore family. She was such a wonderful person and mother. John and she did a wonderful job raising their children while still finding time to be a part of other children's lives. Heaven has great plans for her.
