Arlene S. Gearhart
May 28, 1923 - Aug. 21, 2014

Arlene S. Gearhart, 91, Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, formerly of Akron, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Parkview Medical Center, Ft. Wayne.

She was born on May 28, 1923, in Nappanee, the daughter of Fred J. and Vera (Stahly) Holloway. On April 7, 1950, in Akron she married Gerald D. Gearhart, who preceded July 3, 1999.

She was a graduate of Burket High School. Arlene was a homemaker and assisted her husband on their dairy farm. She was a member of the Akron Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed crocheting for family, making potholders for friends, flowers, reading, socializing with everyone at Timbercrest and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Gearhart, Akron; two sons, Dennis and wife Trillia Gearhart, Akron, and Timothy and wife Diane Gearhart, Macy; sister Rozella Tinkey, Akron; foster brother Terry Weed, Reno, Nev.; grandchildren Amy Wildermuth, Wesley Gearhart, Lisa Hunt, Rebecca Martin, Mark Gearhart, Ashley Craft, Cory Gearhart and Emily Gearhart; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred J. and Vera Holloway, husband Gerald D. Gearhart, twin sister Pauline Ryman, sister Betty Meredith, and brothers Wade Holloway and Carlyle Holloway.

Her funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Rev. Erin Huiras officiating. Visitation is Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial is at Silver Creek Cemetery, Silver Lake.

Memorial contributions may be made to Henry Township Fire Department.
