Judy A. Gates 72, Rochester, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Kindred Hospital Northern Indiana, Mishawaka, with her loving granddaughters, Tyler and Jessie, by her side.

She was born on Aug. 19, 1941, in Hammond, the daughter of William B. and Ellen (Sanders) Wagoner.

She graduated from Rochester High School in 1959. She married Raymond Skarbek in 1962. In 1972, in Wabash, she married Thomas Gates. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1993.

Mrs. Gates retired in October 1993 from Norwest Bank, Rochester. She had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Council on Aging.

Survivors include her sons, Trevor and wife Gail Skarbek, Rochester, and Tracy and wife Nesha Skarbek, Kewanna,; stepchildren, Vicki Bartlett, Jennie Bradley and Terry Gates, all of Rochester; grandchildren, Tyler Skarbek, Jessie Skarbek, Bailey Skarbek and Matthew Hayes, all of Rochester; and nephew Chris Wagoner, Rochester.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bill Wagoner and stepson Ernie Gates.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Internment will take place in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester. Memorial contributions may be made to Manitou Training Center, Rochester. Arrangements by Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester. Online condolences may be expressed at

To Judy's family I send my deepest condolences. I worked with Judy at the 1st National Bank in 1971. She was al ways full of smiles and loved to laugh. She touched the lives of many. God bless.
