Nettie L. Leavell
May 18, 1918 - July 30, 2014

Nettie L. Leavell, 96, Lapeer, Mich., formerly of Rochester, passed away at 12:54 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility - Suncrest, Lapeer.

She was born on May 18, 1918, in Cass County, the daughter of Harold and Laura (Galloway) Moore. On March 7, 1937, in Metea she married Howard Leavell. He preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1981.

Mrs. Leavell assisted her husband in the family farm and operation of the former Tiosa Elevator. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church, Rochester. Nettie enjoyed camping and sewing in her spare time, as well as being a member of the Swinging Dudes Square Dance Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela S. and husband James Painter, Lapeer, Mich.; five grandchildren, Lara and husband David Brazle, West Bloomfield, Mich., Sara and husband John Wriston, Fort Wayne, Morgan Painter, Holland, Mich., Thomas J. Jr. and wife Jerilyn Leavell, Charleston, S.C., and Steve Leavell, Carthage, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Graydon and Ameya Brazle, both of West Bloomfield, Mich.; and sister-in-law Frances Moore, Logansport.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son Thomas J. Leavell, brother Eby Moore and sister Jean Remley.

Graveside service is to be conducted 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at Ever Rest Memorial Park, Logansport, with the Rev. Junior Bose officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester.
