Paul King Anness, 65, Rochester, passed away at 9:13 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at his residence.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1948, in Peru, the son of Kenneth F. and Mildred "Millie" (Bahney) Anness. He was a 1966 graduate of Rochester High School and received his bachelor's degree from Indiana University.

He grew up on Lake Manitou enjoying all the water sports, especially water skiing. His passion for water sports led him to spend the majority of his life living in Hawaii where he was recreational director for Club Med. At Club Med, he was in charge of the resort's water sports, including water skiing, surfing and windsurfing. While working for Club Med, he traveled all over the world, working in resorts at Morocco, Malaysia, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Bora Bora, Tahiti and islands off Brazil, often more than six months at a time. He became fluent in five different languages while working for Club Med. While living in Hawaii he became a Coast Guard Approved sea captain, piloting excursion boats for tourists off the Hawaii shores. He loved living in tropical locations, especially Hawaii, pursuing his passion for surfing, water skiing, and windsurfing. He retired and returned to Rochester a few years ago to be near his mother and had attended the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Mildred "Millie" Anness, Rochester; close friends, Illana Weintraub, Rochester, and Linda Harshman, Knox; his feline companion Paka; and many friends locally and worldwide.

Funeral service is to be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Junior Bose officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at
