Alva "Al" Bontrager
June 22, 1942 - July 4, 2014
Alva "Al" Bontrager, 72, was born in Arthur, Ill.., to the late Ruben and Irene Bontrager. He was living in Rochester with his wife. He grew up in Michigan before moving to Indiana.
He married Doris Jean (Stambaugh) Bontrager on June 19, 2010. She survives.
Other survivors include a one son, Marc Bontrager, Syracuse; three daughters, Debra Bontrager, Kentucky, Janice Libby, Sturgis, Mich., and Mrs. Nate (Nicole) Wilkins, Elkhart; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Mike (Doretta) Street, Marion, and Mrs. Jeremy (Roberta) Fansler, Rochester; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sara Robins, Florida, and Rosie Ryan, Newport, Tenn.
He was precede in death by one daughter, Heidi Tack, and one brother, Floyd Bontrager.
He loved traveling, fishing, hiking and working in the yard and flower beds. Al was an adventurous man that loved the outdoors.
He graduated form Sturgis High School, Michigan, in 1972. He went on to get an associates degree in accounting. He loved visiting Arizona while it was cold in Indiana to be in warm weather.
While visiting in Apache Junction, Ariz., he passed away in Mesa, Ariz., at Mountain Vista Hospital.
All was a very loving husband, one of a kind. He was a very loving father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all of those that knew and loved him.
Memorial service is to be at a later date.
