Donna Lee (Ryan) Everdon Kamp
April 11, 1933 - July 19, 2014
Donna Lee (Ryan) Everdon Kamp, 81, Argos, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday evening, July 19, 2014, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, with her family by her side.
Donna was born in Hammond on April 11, 1933, the daughter of James I. Ryan and Ethel M. (Adams) Modglin Ryan. Her family moved to Plymouth in 1946, where she graduated from West Township High School in 1951. She married Joseph C. Everdon on Oct. 6, 1951, in Plymouth, and together they had four children, twin daughters Kathryn and Karen, son David, and daughter Gail. Donna and Joe divorced in 1970 and in May 1978, in Argos, Donna then married Rawland "Jock" Kamp.
Donna worked for many years at the Plymouth Country Club, Schori's Restaurant, Plymouth, as a cook at West High School, at the Elks Club, Rochester, and finished her working career at Torx Products, Rochester, where she met her second husband Jock. She retired from Torx in 1996 after more than 20 years. Donna and Jock traveled by car and van throughout the U.S. after their retirement. Visiting family and friends in many states, with a special trip visiting many states out west including Alaska. Donna collected shot glasses from the states they had visited and was proud to have one from almost every state.
She enjoyed cooking and having her family gather together at her home in Argos. A holiday or birthday meal wasn't complete without her grandchildren's favorite, her special banana pudding. And on the few occasions that the family gathered at another relative's house Donna always would bring half or more of the food dishes served. For many years she dressed up as Mrs. Claus and assisted her husband Jock who played Santa Claus for family and for the Argos community. She also was active in the West High School Alumni Association and rarely missed attending their annual reunions in Plymouth. When her twin daughters were young, she also was a member of the Marshall County Twins Club. She particularly enjoyed watching Indiana University Basketball and NASCAR Racing.
But the most important thing is Donna's life was her family, particularly her four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Until she lost her eyesight to macular degeneration in 2010, she was very active in their lives, attending sporting events, school plays, graduations, baby-sitting whenever needed and spoiling them always. Although she could no longer see, Donna was pleased to be able to attend her 4-year-old great-granddaughter's first ballet recital just this past June in Logansport.
Donna attended the Argos United Methodist Church, and also attended for many years the Jordan Baptist Church, Argos.
Donna is survived by her four children, daughter Kathryn (Phil) Bickle, Argos, daughter Karen Everdon, Grovertown, son David Everdon, Hamilton, and daughter Gail Quesinberry, Edwardsburg, Mich.; four grandchildren, Stacy (Bickle) Cox, Logansport, Hayley Bickle, Lafayette, Matthew Quesinberry, Elkhart, and Mitchel Quesinberry, South Bend; four great-grandchildren, Ayla and Jacson Quesinberry, Raegan Houser, Ashlyn Cox; four stepgreat-grandchildren, MaKenzie Kamp, Jordyn Kamp, Hunter Kamp, and Cash Shidler; three stepchildren, Elaine (Gary) Shidler, Rochester, Randy (Ann) Kamp, Goshen, and Dennis (Nan) Kamp, Rochester; stepgrandchildren of Emily Kamp, Joshua Kamp, Adam and Brent Shidler and Kyle Kamp; and by her dear friend Suzie Denney, who was a great help after Donna lost her eyesight.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rawland "Jock" Kamp on July 23, 2006, her first husband, Joe Everdon in November 2006, her parents, and by four brothers, Mason Ryan, James "Junior" Ryan Jr., Raymond "Bud" Ryan and Alfred "Fred" Ryan, infant sister Betty and young half sister Violet June.
