James Garland Rudd
April 29, 1930 - June 18, 2014
Mr. James Garland Rudd, 84, Rochester, passed away at 12:51 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Woodlawn Hospital.
On April 29, 1930, Jim was born in Morgan, Ky., a treasured son of Charles L. Sr. and Ethel M. Hurt Rudd. As one of five children, growing up he shared his childhood with a sister Verda and three brothers Dale, Cecil and Charles Jr.
In Rochester, at First Christian Church, Jim and Thelma Jean Howard were married on May 8, 1949. Together they shared more than 65 years of life's adventures. From their union came a daughter, Linda, and three sons, Roger, Larry and Dennis. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
As a young man Jim's work ethic was developed on the farm. He possessed a lifelong love and appreciation for agriculture. In his early years he bred and raised 4-H cattle, Herefords, and was one of the first in the area to raise Charolais. The farming operation included soybeans and corn.
Annually each spring Jim planted a huge truck-patch garden. He shared the bountiful harvest with family, friends and neighbors. Thelma would can and freeze the produce for their family's winter use. In addition to farming, Jim also worked stints over his career at Amana Freezer, Nickles Bakery, The Rochester Sentinel and R.R. Donnelly. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Masonic Lodge and the Shrine Club.
Left to cherish Jim's memory are his wife, Thelma; three sons, Roger Rudd, Larry Rudd and wife Josie and Dennis Rudd, all of Rochester; two grandchildren, Laura Whitenight and Joshua Rudd; three great-grandchildren, Dakota, Cherokee and Cheyenne Whitenight; a brother, Dale Rudd and wife Sandy, Washington; sister-in-law Eileen Davis and husband John; three brothers-in-law, Harold Howard, Paul Howard and wife Phyllis, and Carl Howard, all of Rochester.
Preceding Jim in death are his parents, a daughter, Linda K. Rudd on Dec. 25, 1995, a sister, Verda Perkins, and two brothers, Cecil Rudd and Charles Rudd Jr.

Dear Rudd Family,
Jim was at the Sentinel when I was a paperboy and I remember him as a fair and good man as he was my first real boss.
I am sorry for your loss.
