Chad Colin Cripe

May 2, 1968-Feb. 1, 2014

Chad Colin Cripe, M.D., 45, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at his home in Philadelphia, Penn., following a yearlong battle with brain cancer. He was born May 2, 1968, in Louisville, Ky., to Tom and Karen (Long) Cripe. On Aug. 3, 1991 he married Jane Ann Keim in Rochester. He was a physician at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in the department of cardiac anesthesiology.

Chad grew up in the Goshen area and graduated from Concord High School in 1986. His medical career began in 1989 at Rochester's Woodlawn Hospital as an EMT. He continues his medical education to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing in 1996 from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. In 2000 he received his CRNA from Hannehann Hospital at Philadelphia and in 2001 he graduated from the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. In 2005 he finished his fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and in 2008 he finished his residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Health System.

When not working, Chad liked to help coach his children's soccer teams, ride his bicycle and enjoyed traveling with his family.

Chad is survived by his wife, Jane, at home in Philadelphia; daughter Linnea, a student at Johns Hopkins University; sons Adison, a high school junior, and Ethan, a seventh-grade student, both at home, and Bryce Williams, Elkhart; brother Ben Cripe and wife Mindy, Indianapolis; his father Tom Cripe and wife Beth, Dunlap; his mother Karen Rhoades and maternal grandfather, Domer Long, Melbourne, Fla.; mother-in-law Mary Ruth Gottschalk Keim and brother-in-law Keith and wife Patty, Rochester; niece Natalie Keim, Indianapolis; nephew Phillip Keim, North Manchester; and aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceding him in death include his maternal grandmother, Sondra Long, paternal grandparents Frederick and Maxine Cripe and father-in-law Fred Keim.

A memorial service at a later date is planned at the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia. McIlvane Funeral Home, Philadelphia, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to help with the educational expenses of his children.
