Jean Brown, 89, Rochester, died at 1:55 a.m. Sunday Feb. 2, 2014, in Rochester.
Jean was born on July 10, 1924, in Rochester, the daughter of Aubra and Verla (Grandstaff) Emmons. Jean was a 1942 graduate of Rochester High School and attended Indiana University where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. On May 5, 1944, in Rochester, she married Lawrence C. Brown. He preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 2005.
Mrs. Brown had been a librarian for many years, starting at the old Carnegie Library in Rochester and retiring from the Fulton County Public Library. She had attended the First Presbyterian Church and had been a member of Tri-Kappa Sorority and a charter member of the Associate Chapter. Jean was a lifelong gardener, having started gardening at young age. In her spare time she enjoyed being on the golf course, reading, walking, puzzles and watercolor painting.
Survivors include her daughters, Susan Brown and husband Peter Van Dae, and Cathy and husband Doug Grogg, all of Rochester; grandchildren, Amy and husband Brian Severns, Rochester, Karrie Shambarger, Indianapolis, and Michael and wife Tiffany Brown, Carbondale, Ill.; and three great-grandchildren.
