John Beery

John "Jack" C. Beery, 80, Logansport, formerly of Rochester, died at 2:50 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

Jack was born on June 20, 1933 in Rochester, the son of James D. and Irene (Clifton) Beery. He graduated from Rochester High School and attended Purdue University, where he played in the marching band. On June 10, 1962, at the First Presbyterian Church in Rochester, he married Pauline Lamb. She preceded him in death on June 20, 2011.

Mr. Beery had been a farmer and had worked as a meat cutter at the former A&P Store in Rochester, the Kroger Grocery Stores in Rochester and Columbia City, Lynn's Grocery in Rochester and retired from Park and Shop Grocery in Culver. He was a member of the Judson Baptist Church, near Kokomo, where he enjoyed Sunday School classes, and had been a member of the Rochester Masonic Lodge. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting guns, playing cards and attending church services.

Survivors include his children, Cathy and husband Gary McLeland, Rochester, John Beery, Rochester, Dottie and husband Dave Sommers, Grass Creek, and Jim and wife Carla Beery, Akron; grandchildren, Jason Denton, Rochester, Jennifer Moore, Rochester, Trapper Beery, Plymouth, Tim Paul Beery, Hayward, Calif., Melinda Kamp, Akron, Matt Beery, Warsaw, Nicholas Sommers, Grass Creek, Christopher Sommers, Galveston, Abbey Sommers, Royal Center, and Kassie Clawson, Lafayette; twenty great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Deanna Lamb, Logansport; and special friend, Pat Badt, Logansport. He also leaves behind his dear canine companion, "Max". He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard Beery.

Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Gary Britton officiating. Friends may call from noon until the time of service Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to donor's Hospice of choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanbrosfh.com. Arrangements made by Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester.
