Bedelia B. "Bede" Weirick

Dec. 29, 1928 - Jan. 8, 2014

Bedelia B. "Bede" Weirick, 85, Grace Village, Winona Lake, and formerly of rural Tippecanoe and Mentone, died at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Rivercrest Specialty Hospital of Mishawaka.

Bede was born on Dec. 29, 1928, in Marshall County, the daughter of Raymond R. and Helen A. (Darr) Weirick.

Bede graduated from Wheaton College in Illinois and from Indiana University in Bloomington. She taught in Aledo, Ill., Wayland, Mich., Markham, Ill., and Warsaw. Bede finished her teaching career at Manchester College of North Manchester. During her years of teaching, she was very active in the state health, physical education and athletic organizations, holding many offices. She was chosen as the outstanding cheerleader sponsor in the nation while teaching at Warsaw. Bede was honored by being voted into the Manchester College Athletic Hall of Fame as a coach. In her retirement she was director for the Mentone Nutrition Site for 18 years. Bede planned and directed the "Scrambled Egg Band" in Mentone. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Mentone. She was an avid IU Basketball Fan.

Survivors include nephews Robert and Bill Weirick; and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.

Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastors Joe Olson and Mike Wilhite officiating. Burial will be at the Mentone Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of service.
