|June L. Vrana|
Former Rochester resident, Mrs. June L. Vrana, 88, passed away at 3:27 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
For the past two years, Mrs. Vrana made her home at the Cameron Woods Assisted Living Facility in Angola to be near her son.
On Nov. 21, 1924, June L. Barts was born in Rochester to Howard C. and Maude (Stull) Barts. Growing up, she shared her childhood with a sister, Alice, and two brothers, Joe and Keith.
In May of 1943, with great pride, June graduated with her class from Rochester High School. She continued her education at the South Bend College of Commerce, studying bookkeeping and accounting.
In Rochester, on May 22, 1954, June and James Vrana were married. Their union of 46 years produced twins, Jack and Jill. Over the years, the added blessings of four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren completed the family tree.
Residing in Rochester for all of her life, with the exception of the past two years, June retired as an accountant for Patty Middleton. She was a loyal member of the St. John Lutheran Church for over seven decades, serving the church as treasurer for 24 years.
From her position as alto, she sang with the Notables. An accomplished kegler, June let the good times roll at Quick's Lanes. She also competed in many state bowling tournaments. She thoughtfully knitted gifts of warmth for her grandchildren and special friends. June was best known for her ability to make the best crisp and crunchy peanut brittle at the holidays. Only she knows how many pounds of peanuts she used to create this annual delectable treat which was always in high demand.
June is lovingly remembered by a daughter, Jill Ervin and husband Paul, of Dayton, Ohio; a son, Jack Vrana and wife Kathy, of Angola; four grandchildren, Lauren Vrana Lape and husband Mark, Elliot Vrana and wife Stephanie, and Noah Ervin and Elijah Ervin; two great-grandchildren, Macie Lape and Brysen Lape; sister, Alice Sroufe and husband Tom, of Macy; a sister-in-law, Susie Barts, of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding June in death are her parents; beloved husband, James, on June 6, 2000; an infant grandson, Collin Vrana; and two brothers, Keith Barts and Joseph Barts.
