James Mathias

James D. Mathias Sr., 79, Rochester, passed away at 3:59 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at his residence.

He was born on June 14, 1934, in Fulton, the son of Hugh and Clara (Dale) Mathias.

He graduated from Fulton High School in 1952. On Sept. 21, 1956, in Rochester, he married Sis Alber and she survives.

Mr. Mathias was a U.S. Army veteran, and retired from General Transfer, Rochester, after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Local 364 and 710, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, American Legion and the Eagles Lodge, all of Rochester. In his spare time he loved to follow sports, especially Indiana University, the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees.

Survivors include his wife, Sis Mathias, Rochester; daughter, Rose M. and husband Ron Doyle, North Fort Myers, Fla.; four sons, James D. and wife Karrie Mathias Jr., Rochester, Buck and wife Tammy Mathias, Buffalo, Tink and wife Amber Mathias, Rochester, and Nut Mathias, Rochester; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, a sister and brother-in-law and one nephew.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Athens Cemetery, Athens, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Fulton County Veterans Honor Guard.

Sis I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of Jim,he was a very special person. I'm so glad that we reconnected during the last 2 or 3 years. Jim and I had some good times talking on the phone. We talked about both of us finding the LORD!!!! So we will see him again and forever this time!!!!! GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
