Robert B. Kirkland Jr.
Sept. 25, 1928 - Jan. 7, 2013

Robert B. Kirkland Jr., Riverview, Fla., formerly of Delong, passed away on Jan. 7, 2013.

He was born on Sept. 25, 1928, in Dothan, Ala., to RoseLee (Burkett) and R. B. Kirkland Sr.

On April 17, 1948, in Columbus, Ga., he married Doris Whiddon.

Retiring from Youngstown Sheet & Tube in 1978, he moved to Florida, but spent most summers along the Tippecanoe River, enjoying his family. He enjoyed fishing of any kind, and many happy hours were spent fishing with family and friends. Also a big NASCAR fan, he loved going to Talladega with 'the gang.'

During his years in Indiana, he worked with the Boy Scouts, taking them on many trips. Always willing to help out his friends, he was loved by all.

He is survived by his loving wife, Doris; three children, Nancy (Charles) Cannon, Leiters Ford, Robin (Mark) Minix, Kewanna, and Leslie Kirkland, Delong; 17 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and five great-stepgrandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Duke, Valley, Ala.; uncle J.C. Kirkland, Dothan, Ala.; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Jesse Kirkland; great-granddaughter, Elsie Maude Ringer; and daughter-in-law, Shari (Leslie) Kirkland.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. June 22, 2013, at Ralph Stayton's, near the Tippecanoe River bridge in Leiters Ford. Everyone is invited to come and share some memories with the family. Pastor Dan Huhn will officiate.
