John Hawk

John P. Hawk, 64, Peru, passed away at 3:58 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born Aug. 18, 1948, in Kendallville, to parents Albert E. 'Ted' Hawk Jr. and LaVerta Sundheimer.

He was a graduate of Peru High School. John was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during Vietnam. He had previously belonged to various Saddle Clubs. He was a member of the Eagles, VFW, American Legion, the Literary Aid Society and the Wabash Valley Coon Hunters. He enjoyed camping, canoeing and keeping up with modern technology. He was also an avid reader.

He retired from N&W Railroad, and he also retired from Woodcrest, in Peru.

Survivors include two daughters, Mindy White, Altamont, Tenn., and Brandi Sharp, Peru; one son, Phillip and wife Dee Dee Hawk, Altamont, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Tyler White, Marley Fults, Trevor Hawk, Sawyer Hawk, Emma Sharp and Jaxon Sharp; three sisters, Pamela Dickinson, Akron, Lina Harding, Las Vegas, Nev., and LaVerta 'Shelly' and husband Pat Walgamuth, Akron; and two brothers, Fred and wife Michele Caudill, Peru, and Alan and wife Lesly Sundheimer, Franklin.

John was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Marvin and Lina Johnson.

Graveside services with full military rites will be conducted at the Akron Cemetery, Akron, at a later date.

Memorial visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Flowers and Leedy Funeral Home, Peru.

Memorial contributions are open to the donor's choice.

Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, has been entrusted by the family with arrangements.
