Jack Caudill

William E. 'Jack' Caudill, Silver Lake, died at 8:52 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Leander, Ky., to parents James W. and Bessie (Carpenter) Caudill.

He married Goldia Lena Caudill on June 10, 1942. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2000.

He graduated from high school and college in Kentucky. Then, Jack was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran serving on the U.S.S. Benevolence medical ship. He was on the first ship to Japan when the war was over. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW, both of North Manchester. He also enjoyed gold mining.

He had worked at Pierceton Trucking, of Laketon, and had owned Manchester Lanes, of North Manchester. Jack taught school in Kentucky after his military service.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Sue Butler, Hartzel, Colo., and Sharon and husband Leonard Walton, Nancy, Ky.; two sons, David and wife Kay Caudill, Warsaw, and Jackie Caudill and fiance Pam Craig, Akron; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mayme Alice Chapman, Chesapeake, W. Va., and Lucy Rank, Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Goldia Lena Caudill; four sisters; and two brothers.

Funeral service is at 2 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Chaplain Joe Stark officiating.

Visitation is noon-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake, where graveside military rites will be performed.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nightingale Hospice, 312 E. Dupont Road, Suite 200, Fort Wayne.
