Ellamae Holloway, 94, Rochester, passed away at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Life Care Center, Rochester.
She was born on Jan. 10, 1919, in Rochester, to Seldon J. Brown and Grace (Middleton) Brown, the fourth of six children, all of whom preceded her in death.
Ellamae was married for 55 years to Conde D. Holloway, who preceded her in death on June 5, 1996.
After graduating from Rochester High School in 1937, Ellamae earned a business degree from Indiana Business College. When she and her husband took over ownership of Rochester's Berkway Supermarket, at the corner of east Ninth Street and Wabash Avenue, she worked as the office manager for many years. Upon retirement from the grocery business, Ellamae and Conde spent several more years operating Conde's Farm Market.
Ellamae was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for more than 65 years, where she taught children's classes and was a member of Morning Glory Circle. She participated in the church choir for more than 50 years and sang with the Fulton County Extension choir. She was a member of the adult chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
One of the biggest joys of Ellamae's life was the time spent traveling and camping with her family. Whether it was a weekend at a local campground or a traditional summer trip across the United States, memories were always made during these special times. Ellamae also enjoyed gardening, crafting and playing cards. She and Conde were both accomplished euchre players and loved antiquing.
Ellamae and Conde were avid round and square dancers in the community. The passion for dancing continued with their snowbird friends in Florida during the years they were able to enjoy together after retirement.
Preceding her in death besides her husband and parents, were her siblings, Jesse A. Brown, Edith (Brown) Nicholson, Walter J. Brown, Lawrence Brown and Grace (Brown) Stoyanovich.
Ellamae is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane (Holloway) and Greg Daniels, of Bloomington, and their son Tony Daniels, of Noblesville; and one son, Joseph and wife Melanie Holloway and their two children, Brendan and Daryl Holloway, and one great-grandson, all of Minneapolis, Minn.
There will be a private burial for family at IOOF Cemetery in Rochester, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Hope Hospice of Fulton County; Trinity United Methodist Church, 801 Jefferson St., Rochester, in care of Buck Padilla; or Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 576 Geiger Drive, Suite B, Roanoke.
Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, is handling arrangements.
