Laura Thayle Richards passed away gently Friday, Sept. 21, in Union, Ky. while with her two daughters Lisa Richards of Columbus, Ohio, and Dana Richards Skulan of Union, Ky.
Laura Thale Wallace was born in Bryan, Texas, but later graduated from Paducah, Ky. high school and attended several reunions in Paducah over the years including the 55 year reunion held in 2009.
She was married to Joseph H. Richards for 52 years and was widowed in November 2007. She is survived by her two daughters; son-in-law Dan Skulan; granddaughters Lena and Laura Mei Skulan; stepson Douglas and his wife Leigh Richards; and grandchildren AJ and Amy Richards.
She had a lifelong love of nature as reflected in her many donations to environmental preservation causes as well as making nature the subject of much of her art work. She was a talented painter, seamstress, crafter and appreciator of all arts and spent several years as a docent for the Columbus Art Gallery, Columbus, Ohio.
She will be most remembered for finding the humor in every situation and for the courageous spirit she maintained throughout her life. She is much loved by her family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Memorial service is 4 p.m. Oct. 6, 2012 at Union Presbyterian Church, Union, Ky.
Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. at the church and there is a reception following the service.
An additional service will be held in Indiana at 12:30 p.m. October 14 at the Grass Creek Methodist Church, Grass Creek.
With a burial ceremony immediately following at the Kewanna IOOF Cemetery.
A reception will follow at the Grass Creek firehouse.
Memorials in lieu of flowers, if preferred, can be made to Union Presbyterian or Grass Creek Methodist churches respectively.
