Jan. 27, 1947 - Aug. 14, 2012

Mrs. Terry Lynn Howdeshell, 65, of Rochester, passed away unexpectedly at 6:31 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

Born in Rochester, on Jan. 27, 1947, Terry was the precious daughter of Earl and Estella Ring Smiley. The youngest of the Smiley kids, Terry shared her childhood with four sisters and six brothers.

As a proud Zebra, she graduated with her Rochester High School class in May of 1965. After high school she attended nursing school in Fort Wayne. Switching gears Terry's interests moved to cosmetology and in Logansport, she went on to beauty school. Returning home, Terry opened the Nu Look Styling Salon where she enhanced ladies' hairstyles for over 20 years.

On June 25, 1966, Terry and Larry Joe Howdeshell were married in Rochester. Their marriage of over 46 years produced three handsome sons Greg, Scot and Todd. The family tree grew over the years with the added blessing of 10 grandchildren.

An avid card player, Terry enjoyed euchre and bridge with her buddies at the senior center and the Eagles. Challenging her with the card game Uno, were her grandchildren.

She and Larry enjoyed excursions to Blue Chip and the Golden Nugget. They traveled, visiting casinos from Connecticut to Nevada, and many places in between. Terry usually experienced good luck with her ability to hit the jackpot!

Known as the queen of QVC, Terry enjoyed good values and the convenience of home shopping. She was a member of Rochester's Elk's Lodge and the Eagles. A nature lover, Terry enjoyed observing and feeding common backyard birds. She planted flowers annually around her home to add color to the landscape.

As matriarch of the Howdeshell family, Terry embraced the opportunity to be with her grandchildren. She and Larry were designated as number one cheerleaders of the grandkids following their athletic contests, musical concerts and academic competition.

Terry was known for her twinkling eyes, warm smile, vivacious energy level, positive attitude, light sense of humor and being a natural beauty both inside and out.

Terry is lovingly remembered by her husband, Larry; three sons, Greg Howdeshell and wife Janice, Scot Howdeshell and wife Andrea, and Todd Howdeshell and wife Leslie, all of Rochester; 10 grandchildren, Brandon O'Dell, Kaytlin Howdeshell, Megan Howdeshell, Jonathon O'Dell, Dean Howdeshell, Jacob Howdeshell, Hannah O'Dell, Emma Howdeshell, Mia Howdeshell, and Isabella Howdeshell; a brother John Smiley of Sebring, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was welcomed to Heaven to a big family reunion by her parents; four sisters, Ruth Tullis, Gladys Smiley, Joyce Truex, and Jean Jenkins; five brothers, Bob Smiley Jr., Dean Smiley, Don Smiley, Ray Smiley, and Dale Smiley; and many other extended family and friends.

A celebration of the life of Terry Lynn Smiley Howdeshell will be at 5 p.m. today at the Good Family Funeral Home, with Rev. Junior Bose officiating.

Friends may visit with the family from 1-5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to United Way of Fulton County: Day of Caring-Senior Center Project, Rochester High School Booster Club, or the United Ministries Food Pantry.
