Culver Junior/Senior High School's athletic director and assistant principal is coming to work at Rochester Schools.

Pugh, Pomeroy at top
Rochester and Tippecanoe Valley high schools have named their Class of 2016 valedictorians and salutatorians.

Eli Pugh, son of Kevin and Jill Pugh, is the RHS valedictorian. He plans to study mathematics at Stanford University and participate with the triathlon team there. He is a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, student council, Peers Educating Peers, and the cross country, track and field and swim teams. He is employed at The Elks lodge and as a school lifeguard.

'A-M-A-Z-I-N-G:' Gut feeling preceded RHS girls tennis' first sectional title
Mariah Yochum had a feeling.

Yochum, the only senior on the Rochester girls tennis team, just had a feeling the Lady Zs would beat Culver Academy on Wednesday and win their first sectional title ever on Thursday even though there was evidence to suggest otherwise.

$2.9 million bond OK'd
The Fulton County Council has approved the sale of a $2.9 million general obligation bond to finance capital improvement projects.

There were no public comments about the bond issue during a Tuesday public hearing at the Fulton County Office Building. A related ordinance appropriating the funds from the bond issue was adopted unanimously. The sale is slated for late May with closing in early June.

Flyers prep for construction
Akron Elementary School Flyers broke ground Wednesday for a $17.6 million expansion and rehabilitation project.

On hand were approximately 450 people, including students.

Principal Chrissy Mills asked the assembled crowd how many once attended Akron, an elementary, junior high or high school students? Many hands went up.

North Miami's White, Lefebvre 'long' to reach track state finals
GIRLS TRACK

North Miami sophomore Faith White is on the cusp of doing something her brother did last year.

Go to the state finals in track.

Meanwhile, Carlee Lefebvre, who is already a state champion in softball, will look to make state in a second sport when she and White participate in the regional at Kokomo High School. Start time is 6 p.m. today.

Holland homers on senior day, but Bremen sweeps Zebras
Rochester senior Alec Holland had a memorable senior moment, but the rest of his baseball teammates might like to forget their doubleheader against Bremen at Bob Copeland Field Saturday.

Bremen won the first game 20-4 in five innings, and they won the second game 15-2 in six innings.

BOURBON - The Caston softball team has lost its confidence at the plate, according to coach Alysha Marrs.

The Rochester girls tennis team ended Culver Academy's 11-year reign atop the sectional with a 3-2 upset win over the Lady Eagles in a sectional semifinal at Culver Academy Wednesday.

Beverly Raya, 70, Rochester, died Thursday at Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw.

Survivors include a daughter, Angel Parker, Mentone; and a brother, Jack Brower, Rochester.

Funeral service is 3 p.m. Monday at Good Family Funeral Home. Visitation is one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home.
